Jan Azman-Zielinski served a one-year term as President of the Polish Alliance of Canada from 2001 to 2002. He was elected at the General Assembly in Delhi, Ontario in 2001. He filled this position until May 2002, when he decided to resign due to the situation within The Polish Alliance of Canada and the difference of opinion with the other members of the Head Executive Board.
Jan Azman-Zielinski came to Canada with his wife Danuta and his two sons, Ivo and Marek, in 1981 and settled in Brantford.
In 1987, he joined Polish Alliance of Canada Branch 10 and began very active volunteer work within the Polish community in Brantford.
In 1994, he was elected Recording Secretary of the board and, in 1995, was elected President by the Branch’s members. He was reelected President of PAC Branch 10 in 1999, 2000 and 2001.
This was a period of very important events in the organizational life of Branch 10. Among these were the ever-increasing wealth of the Branch and the participation of the Vistula Song and Dance Ensemble, established in 1990, in the XI International Folklore Festival in Rzeszow in 1999. This trip was possible thanks to the enormous involvement of President Jan Azman-Zielinski and the Branch’s board.
Jan Azman-Zielinski made himself known as an active alliance worker. He was often chosen as the chairperson of PAC General Assemblies; talks under his direction were efficient and followed the organization’s regulations. For many years, he was a member of the PAC Audit Committee and, between 2003 and 2005, its chairperson.
On April 28, 2007, during the banquet for the 75th anniversary of PAC Branch 10 in Brantford and for the 100th anniversary of the PAC, Jan Azman-Zielinski received a PAC Centennial Medal and a diploma, in honour of his achievements and as thanks for his long volunteer work for The Polish Alliance of Canada.
