Elzbieta Gazda was born in the small town of Sompolno, near Lichenia (today the Greater Poland Voivodship). She attended school there. In 1967, she went to Canada as a tourist and never returned to Poland. She got married in 1968 and purchased a tobacco farm with her husband. They cultivated tobacco for 21 years. Meanwhile, their family expanded. Elzbieta gave birth to son Robert and daughter Susan. In 1989, she moved to Simcoe and began to work in a clothing store.
In 1970, she decided to join PAC Branch 17’s Ladies’ Circle in Delhi and, a year later, she was elected the Circle’s board’s Financial Secretary. She filled this position until 1975 (except for 1974).
From 1976 onwards, Elzbieta worked as PAC Branch 17’s Ladies’ Circle’s President for many years. At the Ladies’ Circles’ Delegates’ Assembly in Brantford in 1999, Elzbieta Gazda was chosen President of the Ladies’ Circles’ Central Board, resigning from her position in the Delhi Ladies’ Circle’s board.
She continued to fill the position of President successfully, directing this devoted women’s organization, without which it would be difficult to imagine the work of the entire Polish Alliance of Canada.
The Harvest Festival was an event organized annually by the Ladies’ Circles’ Central Board at Place Polonaise in Grimsby, which had been very popular within the Polish-Canadian community for years. Thanks to the women, this beautiful Polish tradition was carefully cultivated on Canadian soil.
Elzbieta Gazda was well-liked by the Ladies’ Circles, which was unanimously underlined by the members of this organization; they appreciate her full involvement in volunteer work and in their adequate representation at various types of official events (not only of the Alliance).
For the Polish Alliance of Canada’s Centennial, the Ladies’ Circles’ Central Board and its President Elzbieta Gazda donated $2000.00 to the organization of this beautiful Jubilee’s celebrations.
Elzbieta Gazda has been a member of The Multicultural Heritage Association of Norfolk since 1979. She had tried conscientiously and devotedly to fulfill the responsibilities resulting from the positions she had held; for this reason, she had obtained many diplomas of recognition from, among others, the PAC Head Executive Board, PAC Branch 17’s Ladies’ Circle, The W. Reymont Foundation, and the above-mentioned Multicultural Heritage Association of Norfolk.
